Drawing art dump

After what seemed like ages since the last time I got to draw, I finally sat down and started fleshing out characters for a game design I have been thinking of lately. It's nothing super serious, just a little project I made for myself to keep me busy. The style is a mix of all my favorite cartoony style games. Games like Harvest Moon, Pokemon, Legend of Zelda, and Animal Crossing.
Some sort of fairy or spring goddess/sprite.
I thought the sketch was cute enough to deserve posting :)
This could be either the mayor or a librarian/researcher.
Totally unrelated to the top two, but my most current illustration.
I now realize I have a growing obsession with fairies and elves, but who doesn't really?
Some dog/cat sketches in various styles.

Arena Net art test Part 2

Hey guys~ little update here. I know I havent been posting much lately, life has been very hectic since graduation and moving. Nowadays I'm mainly posting my work on my personal facebook(what's a fan page?) and then once I gather enough images I put them up here. Anywho, I totally missed the deadline for this test due to finding out about the date extension way too late -__-'' about a week late! They had not updated their website so I was under the impression the test was long over. There is always next year right? :(

Even though I'm super bummed about that, I'm super excited about all the new skills and techniques that I've learned through trial, error, near death experience, and so on. This is my first game character, but I want it to be super legit. After many nights of failure and research I think I got this down to a pretty good formula.

Figure study with Manga Studio

Feels good to get back into figure drawing after working in zbrush for so long. I started using a new program today, Manga Studio. I was never interested in using Manga Studio until I saw some crazy good tutorials on youtube that really blew me away. After playing with it all day, I can say it's really a top-notch program for drawing and inking even if you don't draw manga(although I imagine its perfect tool for manga artist).

Usually these kinds of sketches take me forever in photoshop going back and forth brushes and settings...
You can mimic traditional mediums pretty effortlessly, and they don't feel awkward.
Caricatures have that graphic look to them which I really like.
Now I can't speak for the coloring aspect of it, It's ok I guess. Photoshop is probably a better tool for coloring and refinement, but MS is far superior when it comes to line art. I'd say its the perfect in between of Photoshop and Illustrator. The pens feel like pens, the pencil feel like pencil, you can get some very nice looking textures out of it right out of the box.

Arena Net Art Test Progress

Hi guys, just wanted to share some quick and dirty screen grabs of my latest project. It's this months art test for ArenaNet(Guild Wars). Here is the concept art provided.

I'm still only a few days in, but only about a week left to finish! There is so much to do, but I am confident that even if I don't finish by the deadline, this will be a great portfolio piece. My first time making a character for real time, so lots and lots of first times involved with creating this character.

Self Portrait Quickie + Website woes

Hi all, just a quick drawing from today. I haven't drawn in a while, really looking forward to life after graduation if it means free time to draw all day. I usually fail at drawing myself stylized but I thought this turned out pretty well ( with the exception that I just couldn't get my lovely vampire complexion just quite).  So it's me with a nice tan.
And in other news, I am in the process of re-vamping my website. Kind of starting from scratch..in an attempt to make my portfolio come across as more "professional". I should really hire someone to do this for me. It's like I go in the code, change the color of the font, and next thing I know my entire page is missing buttons and all the images are gone. I am just cursed when it comes to website design.

How it looks now
How it's beginning to look...
Yes,very white. I've seen a ton of game art/modeller/3d people go for the black and blue theme, sort of like the Blizzard website. It seems like that's the "safe" style for most 3d artist, but honestly it's not me at all. I like colorful, playful, girly etc. Unfortunately these are just aesthetics that many people label as unprofessional, busy, and unrefined. Not all societies fault however, It's partially my own fault for just not having the graphic design/code knowledge to really develop my site the way I have envisioned.

Off to sleep. Walking dead time first :)

Pin up girl PCC2 Progress

I've been guilty this month of not posting much of my work progress, so here's everything I've been working on since I got back from Christmas break. My PCC2 asset is a pinup style girl on a cruiser bicycle with a kitty in her basket. There are many assets that make up this concept, so attention to detail is important to get the overall look to come together. Concept drawing is by JessiBeans . I love all of her artwork, so it was hard to choose just one of her pinup girls as my reference.
Here is everything I did from start to finish(well, today, nothings ever really finished!)
My Zbrush Speed Sculpt.
Week one progress. Level 1 retopology straight out of zbrush. Featureless and no hands yet.
Week two progress, clothing blocked out and adding more features.
Week three, getting close to finishing. Just making small adjustments here and there to the face and body proportions.
The base mesh for the cat is finished, exported the level 2.
Final hair and braid retopologized, and started textures and normal map.
Bicycle is 90% there, had to make tires a bit thicker and make sure the girl will be able to fit.
Probably should of posted my reference by now =P
Test posing and render in Zbrush. This is posed using just masking and rotate tools in zbrush, so not very clean or natural looking. Worked on getting her a rig to make the pose close to the concept.
Some test renders using Maya Physical sun and sky.  I'm still trying to figure it out, and I'm always switching back and forth different rendering methods for showing off models =P  My first attempt was with ambient occlusion, but it appears too white to be on it's own. Then I tried regular area lights and final gather, but never quite got great results. This one seems to be the best so far, just needs to be tweaked a bit further.
Annnddd the turnaround. I used nuke to composite this and make it look a little less like sun and sky fresh out of Maya. Oh boy has it been ages since I used Nuke! I forgot how to extract alphas and plug in Roto nodes =x But still got through it.. now my script is ready to plug in the final renders once they are complete :)
Enjoy.

PCC1 Finished

I'm now in PCC2 and working on my next model. Here is my latest render of the models from last month. I'd still like to go back and detail them a bit more. The poses are also just test poses for now until I can get them rigged. I'm going to work on their materials and textures in the upcoming months alongside my other projects.

ambient occlusion is strong with this one
Will post breakdowns once I'm closer to demo reel time.
